講演題目 : Analytic expression for the Taylor-Couette stability boundary
The mechanism is analyzed which determines the
boundary of stability in Taylor-Couette flow between independently
rotating, concentric cylinders. By direct but simple physical argument
an analytic expression to approximate the line of loss of stability is
derived. It is valid for all radius ratios and all rotation speeds, co- as
well as counter-rotating cylinders. The criterion includes viscosity
and gereralizes Rayleigh's famous criterion to viscid fluids.
Comparison can be made with numerical stability analysis and with
experiment. The agreement is very satisfactory. The talk is based on
